Life Legacy


Gladys A. Holm, 88, died Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Her funeral service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, Oct. 17 at Shalom Lutheran Church in Harrisburg. Visitation begins 5:00 PM Tuesday, Oct. 16 at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, where the family will greet friends from 5-7:00 PM.

Gladys A. Stuen, daughter of Otto and Anna (Kluth) Stuen, was born August 8, 1924 in Viborg, SD. She received her education in rural schools.

Gladys was united in marriage with Merlyn V. Holm on August 26, 1943 in Viborg. The couple made their home on the family farm near Viborg. In 1948, they moved to a farm near Harrisburg, SD. They sold the farm and moved to Sioux Falls, SD in 1989.

Gladys was a charter member of Shalom Lutheran Church in Harrisburg.

Grateful for having shared her life are her loving husband of 69 years, Merlyn; four children, David Holm and his wife, Carol, Brookings, SD, Darrell Holm and his wife, Beckey, Harrisburg, SD, Jon Holm and his wife, Julie, Grand Rapids, MI, Linda Slack and her husband, Dennis, Harrisburg, SD; eight grandchildren, Scott Holm and his wife, Carleen, Brookings, SD, Jeff Holm and his wife, Amy, Dell Rapids, SD, Amanda Allison and her husband, Chad, Harrisburg, SD, Ashley Holm, Harrisburg, SD, Casey Slack and his wife, Jennifer, Lennox, SD, Travis Slack, Harrisburg, SD, Terra Hoverson and her husband, Corey, Harrisburg, SD, Laura Doohen and her husband, Paul, Sioux Falls, SD; 13 great-grandchildren, Emily and Carter Holm, Jay and Charlie Holm, Emma Allison, Landon and Brianna Slack, Kylie and Tate Hoverson, Carson, Addison and Hudson Doohen, Mataya Braaten; two sisters, Beverly Frerichs and her husband, Melvin, Sioux Falls, SD, Vivian Lambrecht and her husband, Richard, Sioux Falls, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Kenneth, Lloyd, Virgil and Merlyn Stuen; and two sisters, Ree Svartoein and Sue Marty.
