George Datered Wallenstein, was born the son of Datered G. and Hattie (Hoffman) Wallenstein on December 11, 1917 on a farm south of Lennox, SD. He served as a parachutist with the U.S. Army during WW II staitioned in the European Theatre. Following his honorable discharge, George worked in the sweet pickle/curing department at John Morrell & Co. He retired in December of 1979 after 33 years of service. He was united in marriage with Bonnie L. French on June 28, 1951 in Luverne, MN. She preceded him in death on November 27, 1995.
George was a member of the V.F.W., the Morrell Retirees, and the Sioux Falls Racing Association. In earlier years he was part owner and pit crew mechanic for GMC Racecar #39 (driven by Harold Petree) which was the Husets Raceway Champion for many years.
Grateful for having shared his life are his two daughters, Joelene Haugse and special friend, Doug Roach, Sioux Falls, Donna Moss and her husband, Rick, Sioux Falls; two stepsons, Ted Brush and his wife, Audrey, Sioux Falls, Charles Brush, Texas; 11 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Marvin Wallenstein, Sioux Falls; two sisters, Gladys Smidt and Jennie Peterson, both of Lennox, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, Bonnie, he was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ernest, Harvey, Donald, and LeRoy; and four sisters, Henrietta Hammerstrom, Ida Anderson, Irene Johnson, and an infant sister, Marian.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for lunch and fellowship at Westminster Presbyterian following the committal service.
