Clear Lake, IA – Emma B. Peterson, 80, died Sunday, March 14, 2010 at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear lake, IA.
A visitation will be 12:00 PM Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at the George Boom Funeral Chapel in Brandon, SD with the family present from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be 10:30 AM Thursday March 18, 2010 at Beaver Valley Lutheran Church in rural Valley Springs with burial to follow in the Beaver Valley Lutheran Cemetery.
Emma B. Andersen, the daughter of Chris and Amelia (Sorenson) Anderson was born October 22, 1929 in Clear Lake, IA. When Emma’s parents died at a young age, she was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Halverson. Emma graduated from Augustana Academy High School in Canton in 1947.
In 1950, Emma was united in marriage with Bernt Laate in Norway. He died in 1960. In 1962, Emma was united in marriage with Clarence Peterson. She was a homemaker for most of her life. Emma also sold Tupperware, and owned and operated the Butterfly Craft Shop during the 1980’s. She arranged many silk flowers for weddings, and witnessed to many people about the word of Jesus. Clarence died August 18, 1990.
Emma was a member of Beaver Valley Lutheran Church. She enjoyed crocheting, cross stitching, and reading.
Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Jacob (Kathy) Laate of Chicago, IL; two daughters, Marlene Laate of Chicago, IL, Kristi (fiancé: Denny Jaycox) Glaser of Sioux Falls; five grandchildren, Jason, Nick, Melissa, Jennifer, and Kelsey; a sister, Ann Hill of Clear Lake, IA; a daughter-in-law, Bobbie Andersen of Brandon, SD; special “sisters”, Phyllis Erickson of Valley Springs, SD, Marvell Peterson of Waseca, MN, Shirley Schmidt of Milbank, SD; a special friend, Diane Miller of Clear Lake, IA; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Chris “Gunner”; two sisters, Ruby and Vi; her two husbands, Bernt and Clarence; and two children, Diane and David.
