Glen Earl Cooper, son of Roy and Mary (Bartholemew) Cooper, was born January 24, 1918, in Soldier, IA. Glen grew up in Ute, IA before serving in the Army during WWII. Private First Class Cooper was assigned to the 36th Engineering Regiment. He participated in the Sicilian and Italian campaigns. PFC Cooper was wounded in combat and awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action near Salerno, Italy on September 9th, 1943. Glen served honorably and was discharged on November 25, 1944 in Missouri.
Glen married Joyce Plummer in Onawa, Iowa in 1946. Together they raised their two children, Charles and Linda. Glen was a wonderful father who adored his children. In later years, he took particular joy in spending time with his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. The couple later moved to Tea, SD where he began working as the maintenance man for Sunshine Foods on 41st St. in 1971. He worked there for 25 years before taking a job at Econofoods. He retired in 2002 at the age of 84. Throughout his whole life, Glen was a hard worker who was dedicated to whatever job he had to do. He was a gentle, kind man and helped anyone in need.
In his free time Glen loved to take care of his garden. He would spend hours outside in his garden during the spring and summer. Glens faith in God carried him through all of lifes trials and joys. All of those who knew and loved Glen will miss him deeply, but we rejoice in knowing he is in Heaven.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Joyce Cooper; son, Charles (Patty) Cooper, Oregon; daughter, Linda (James) Jacobson, Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Scott Cooper, Arizona, Roselyn (Tim) Schillerstrom, Sioux Falls, Danielle (Scott) Nelson, Sioux Falls, and Desiree Cooper, London, UK; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Morgan Schillerstrom, and Samantha Nelson, all of Sioux Falls; siblings, Leo (Jan) Cooper, Odebolt, IA, Edith (John) Johnson, Kentucky, Norma (Richard) Larson, Omaha, NE, and Donna (Norris) Olson, Henderson, NV.
