LaVerne Robert Pinney, son of Fred and Helen (Empie) Pinney, was born March 14, 1937, in Batavia, NY. LaVerne grew up in Roanoke, NY and went to school in Pavillion, NY. On November 11, 1955, he entered the United States Air Force in Buffalo, NY. During his time he was stationed in Reykjavik, Iceland at Thule Air Force Base. He was honorably discharged on August 1, 1958 in Cheyenne, WY. While in Cheyenne, he met Barbara Daniels. The couple was married on May 11, 1958. They then moved to Denver, CO before they were divorced. In Denver he married Margaret Jeffryes on February 21, 1969.
In November of 1971 they moved to Sioux Falls for a brief time before moving to Valley Springs, SD in 1973. LaVerne drove truck for 32 years before retiring. In 1997 he joined the Masons Trinity Lodge 200. He was involved with the Scottish Rite, El Riad Shrine Big Band, Campers, the Road Runners and his motorcycle group which took him all over.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Margaret Pinney, Valley Springs, SD; daughters, Patricia Hackett, Wichita, KS and Mari Joleen (Ian) Brandsgaard, Canton, SD; step-children, Bette (Tony) Ryan, Sioux Falls, Belinda Grush, Sioux Falls, Michele (Monte) Poague, Aurora, CO, Christine Lassiter, Denver, CO and Robert (Cheryl) Jeffryes Jr., Castle Rock, CO; grandson, James Brandsgaard; and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
LaVerne was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Helen Pinney; son, Robert Hackett; step-daughter, Debra Terwee; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Mystique and Paul Brandsgaard; 2 brothers, Kenneth and Warren Pinney; and 2 step-sons-in-law, David Terwee and Keith Lassiter.
