Sioux Falls – John A. Bishop, 65, died Saturday, February 06, 2010 at the VA Regional Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD
A memorial visitation will be 2:00 PM Friday, February 12, 2010 at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls with the family present from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A memorial service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, February 13, 2010 at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls.
John Arthur Bishop, the son of Ralph and Hazel (Swartz) Bishop was born April 6, 1944 in Sioux Falls, SD. He attended Washington High School. John then joined the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed in Tainan, Taiwan. He worked as a helicopter mechanic before his honorable discharge in 1962.
John worked for Greenlee’s Meat Packing Plant. He then was trained as a blacksmith and farrier. John even taught horse shoeing in the state of Texas.
John attended local horse shows and was a team roper in rodeos. He also liked to fish and hunt, with both rifle and bow. John was very talented in archery, and had even won the world title for singles archery competition. He enjoyed motorcycles and was also an avid pool player, traveling to many tournaments.
Grateful for having shared his life are a daughter, Jessica (Troy) Earhart of Cambridge, MD; two granddaughters, Kaleigh and Alyssah Earhart of Cambridge; his mother, Hazel Bishop of Sioux Falls; two sisters, Barbara (Fred) Hagen of Sioux Falls, Janet (Harlan) Klinghagen of Parker, SD; a brother, Ralph “Bud” Bishop of Sioux Falls; special friends, Mitsuko “Mitzi” (Ted) Parker of Sioux Falls, Jerry Haensel of Montrose, SD, and many, many others; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Bishop Sr.; two brothers, Larry and Daryl Bishop; and a sister, Judy Bishop.
The family has requested that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society.
